Special Guest  John "Bowzer" Bauman

Jon "Bowzer" Bauman was born in Brooklyn, New York, just in time to later be captured by the evolving phenomenon known as Rock and Roll.  He was somewhat of a child prodigy at the piano playing classical lessons at age seven, and subsequently attending the Juilliard School of Music beginning at age 12.  He ultimately graduated Magna Cum Laude from the prestigious Columbia College in New York.

In l969, Jon joined several of his Columbia classmates in forming the very successful rock group Sha Na Na, and creating the character of Bowzer, the dominant character on stage for 14 years, leading the group to their successful TV series. At its peak, Sha Na Na was the #1 syndicated show in America, and was also seen in 32 foreign countries. The series ran for four years first-run, and another three in syndication.

He later surfaced as one of the most multidimensional performers in show business today, with careers as host, producer, writer, performer, actor, musician, and social activist. You may have read his many social and political commentaries at the Huffington Post.  You may not be aware he has spent countless hours between scheduled shows assisting worthy Democratic candidates across the country, identifying Carol Shea-Porter as one of those worthy candidates.

Over the years, many groups have toured the country pretending to be who they are not ... groups such as the Platters and the Drifters.  Caught up in the injustice of it, Jon has had great success in protecting many of those pioneers of modern music from identity theft using model legislation known as the Truth in Music bill.  Our own Senator Jackie Cilley sponsored Jon's bill, which Governor Lynch signed into law on August 12, 2009, with Bowzer in attendance, pleasing the crowd with his famous pose for the cameras.

Jon lives in Los Angeles with his wife Mary of 31 years, and their two children, Nora, 23, and Eli, 21.  Nora just graduated and Eli is a sophomore at Columbia, where Jon went to college.
We are very grateful and excited that a musical legend has traveled from the West Coast to support Democratic candidates here on the east coast.  Be prepared for musical levity, political reality, and a surprise or two from the heart of this very talented and sincere entertainer and activist, Jon Bowzer Bauman.

Watch Bozer in a one and a half minute segment of the Sha-Na-Na TV series, featuring that skinny kid with the Brooklyn accent.

Watch Sha Na Na sing "At the Hop" with Bowzer on the piano.

Watch Bowzer's California Assembly testimony on the Truth in Music Bill.
